Tucked away in a lush valley near Horeke in the Far North is an ancient valley, a unique geological wonder consisting of massive fluted basalt boulders stacked in their thousands down the Wairere Valley towards the Hokianga Harbour.  Known as Wairere Boulders,  this new eco-tourism venture features two walking tracks with wooden steps, bridges and a viewing platform on a loop track provide fascinating one and three-hour walk options.  Rita and Felix Schaad spent two years building the 22 wooden structures and developing the tracks that have helped extend and transform this nature park.  Visit for details.
